Coventry Building Society will merge with smaller rival Stroud & Swidon, in the latest in a series of tie-ups in the sector. The deal will create a combined group with about 1.5 million members and assets of about £21.1 billion.
The business will have a network of 91 branches and agencies across the midlands and south-west. The merger is believed to be helpful for the company to build on recent successes.
Stroud & Swindon’s name will be retained and operated as a separate identity, though it is not clear whether the branches will keep their branding.
