Thousands of university leavers will start new career with the Big Four accountants this week as UK’s leaing beancounters restore their graduate intake to levels last seen before the financial crisis.
According to research by the Times, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, KPMG and PwC will recruit about 3850 graduates between them in 2010, which will be up by more than 20% from 2009. In an effort to avoid widespread redundancies, the accountants cut graduate numbers by almost 20% in 2008 and a further 5% in 2009 collectively.
As with many employers the accountants take on the bulk of graduates in the autumn, though some joiners began working earlier in the year. School levers are usually spread fairly evenly across services like audit, tax and management consulting.
