For people, who have a few spare rooms and live in a location with tourist demand, starting a B&B is a good way to make some good money at low risks. There are over 20000 British who are running a B&B by themselves. The average revenue generated from a room is about £75 per night and dedicated owners of B&B can earn up to £40K a year with two rooms.
However, it is not available to everyone. It is hard work and one definitely need to be a people person and are handy with a frying pan. Though the training required is little, the time needed to be invest in the business is great due to the nature of the business. If you enjoy meeting strangers and can immerse yourself in the business, you will find it a rewarding way to increase your income. But if you are only doing it for the mney, you should think hard about it before taking it any further.
Besides, like any other businesses involving the general public being on the premises, there is a raft of legislative box ticking including insurance cover, planning regulations, fire certificates, health and safety and food hygiene.
