The new handset is built with a 4.2-inch touchscreen and powered by a new operating system that forms a key part of RIM’s strategy as it struggles to compete with Apple’s popular iPhone and smartphones based on Google’s Android operating system, such as those made by Samsung.
The look of the prototype device is like a shrunken version of RIM’s PlayBook PC tablet, which is larger than the iPhone while smaller than some of Samsung’s popular Galaxy family of smartphones. It comes with a black case and no physical buttons on the front. The most notable feature of the new prototype is the lack of a physical keyboard. Instead, like most other touch phones, the mobile device features a virtual touchscreen keyboard.

This is just great Wall Street, in two places up the company’s stock news. Now the hope is that a company has layoffs and budget cuts may seek new technology to enhance their productivity as the U.S. economy, the speed of recovery.
