			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Steel giant Corus has won a £200 million contract to supply pipes for a new gas field run by energy supplier Total. It will build more tha  520km of pipeline at its Hartlepool site, safeguarding more than 250 jobs and creating about 100 more positions. The two companies signed on the dotted line at London office of Lord Mandelson.<br />
Total and partner Dong Energy are investing £2.5 billion in the Laggan-Tormore offshore development, west of Shetland. Exploring the fields 600m underwater in the harshest environment on the UK Continental Shelf will be a major challenge, and the support and expertise of suppliers such as Corus will be vital.<br />
The project was kickstarted last week after the Treasury introduced tax relief that could be worth up to £160 million per gas field. The fields will produce more than 28 billion m3 of gas in their lifetime.<br />
Corus shut part of its Redcar plant in Feburary, leaving 1600 staffs facing the cut. It is announced that the new opportunities in Hartlepool. </p>
