Yorkshire Building Society is slashing 0.30% off its ten-year fixed-rate mortgage deal for the ones with a 25% deposit, making the rate drop from 5.24% to a reasonable level of 4.99%. It is said that it is the very first time in a year that a ten-year fixed rate mortgage has fall under 5%.
However, the attached fee rise from £995 to £1995. though the mortgages seems to be more expensive than the ones with the current fixed rates of 3.99%, it is could be a good lock-in with rates expected to rise over the coming years.
Borrowers need to be careful that the penalties are high if they quit their mortgage early on longer-term deals.
